When preparing for the ultimate trekking trip to Mount Kilimanjaro of course I was faced with the question what is needed on the mountain. That’s why I’d like to give you a overview about what I had in my luggage or decided afterwards that I’d like to have had it. Please keep in mind that this only a suggestion: your preferences and needs may be different.
- clothes
- base layer
- long base layer shirts – I preferred compression shirts as they are much more comfortable when sweating
- short base layer shirts – same story as above
- functional underwear
- Jong Johns
- outer wear
- trekking trousers – Zip-off preferred
- Maier Sports Tajo 2
- and a second warm one: Jack Wolfskin Atmosphere
- softshell jacket
- fleece jacket
- warm (down) jacket
- for the jackets it’s a good idea to choose jackets without a hood, as you have to combine some jackets. (the warm jacket on the opposite should have one.) If you’re trying those on, try to combine the two fleeces plus the softshell plus the warm jacket altogether. That’s what you need during summit night.
